Story 3.5Narration 4Extension of the elemental mysteries(EM) series storyline, which was excellent. This novel filled in the gaps of Carwyn's life (One of the best characters from EM) in Ireland while he was a way from Bea and Gio. To be truthful it was too slow for a long period of time waiting for our girl to grow up. She was interesting as a character but no where as interesting as Bea was from EM. The pace is what kept this book back from a higher rating, but the last third was quite good which saves it. Should have been a novella rather than a novel though, to much retreading over the same timeline. As the first book after the Elemental series but that follows in the stead of the series this novel is perfect in how it strikes out on its own but at the same time continues the main theme of the Elemental Series concerning the Elixir of Life! How Bridget and Carwyn struggle to keep their relationship moving forward from just acquaintances through family and her once saviour, to something more substantial as Love whilst dealing with her "birth" as a Fire vampire is full of heady highs and disastrous lows. A definite read!!!
What do You think about Building From Ashes (2000)?
Great story on vampires. The characters feel real, the world she creates is well constructed.

A spin-off from the Elemental Mysteries Series. Looking forward to the others!
