Buono A Sapersi (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

A 3.75 in my reckoning!Loved the cover - and it ties into the story at the end! This was a good romance, leaving mostly nice, warm feelings. The story engaged from the start and it was too easy to read it in one sitting! The story is of Jerry who has to take in his orphaned cousin and his growing relationship with his ward's teacher, David. With a bit of homophobic jealousy from another teacher threatening David's career and the relationship to add the angst.I found Jerry not quite so lovable at beginning - but prob true of any 40+ with only themself to think off - but as the book progressed i found i liked him more than David. The pre-requisite romance breakup (so there can be the make up!) happened very suddenly for me, but it does give us our happy end.22.9.14 - reread, still enjoyed it. Very insta love, and the breakup/make up is still a bit sudden but quick paced, light read "Good to Know" is the rather sweet story of getting to know one another, adoption and trust. I enjoyed the story but found it rather unremarkable. I also found it to be rather uneven.I just didn't find a lot of the story believable. William, the orphaned child in the story, is supposed to be 10, but I felt that he was treated more like a 6-year-old. Having grown up in a boarding school in Switzerland, he seemed very immature. The author painted him as a poor, weak neglected child. My experience of children who've grown up away from home is that they are are independent and very mature for their age. I thought that his early love of horses to be totally in-congruent with Swiss boarding school life.I would have enjoyed a few references to German, but felt that they were a little over done and I didn't like the translations. If you are going to use praises from another language, just use them and allow the context to explain them. If that isn't sufficient, then don't use them at all.I felt the story was way too saccharin and lacked much conflict. There was perhaps 3 chapters of conflict. The rest was pretty bland and predictable.Otherwise enjoyable.

I fell in love with this book the moment little William told those bullies to "cowboy up."
