He was privy to Sébastien’s plans to begin his own sugar plantation in the Hawaiian Islands, far from the seafaring world. Sébastien had shared with him the letter of marque from the governor authorizing him to free the slaves carried on the Ann Marie. How they went about it, and whether they removed any booty from the British trader was at his discretion. Jean-Luc would expect him to take the cargo, for distribution at his trading outpost, but Sébastien had little interest in that. His goal was purely to stop the Ann Marie from reaching port with the cargo of slaves.
