Carrie And Me: A Mother-Daughter Love Story (2013) - Plot & Excerpts
I certainly don't have a way with words, but here goes my review. :) This book was funny, it was sad, it was poignant. It's a fairly quick read, especially if you skip the end of the book. I think it was a really great concept to adds one of the unfinished book her daughter was working on to the end of this book, but I didn't care for her daughters writing. I read a bit just to help get a feel for her daughter's "voice". If you like Carol or if like me you watched her show, I think you will really enjoy her story. I'm just so sorry she had to endure such a loss. The fact that she had kept the emails between herself and her daughter was wonderful, they were one of my favorite parts of the book. I did get this book through a Goodreads Giveaway and was happy I received this one. I have had great luck with the books I have gotten. I am only sorry this review took so long for me to post, my 16 month old twins have taken away much of my reading time. I received Carrie and Me as part of a Goodreads giveaway.Carrie Hamilton, daughter of legendary comedian Carol Burnett, passed away from lung cancer at age 38 in 2002. An actress and budding writer, Carrie's short life is narrated from the perspective of her famous mother, with an emphasis on a road trip to Memphis taken by Carrie to research for an upcoming story, "Road to Memphis," whose unfinished text makes up the last section of the book.A sweet story. I'd watched a lot of Carol Burnett growing up, but didn't know about her daughter's battles, first with addiction, then with cancer. Sometimes the e-mail dialogues sounded a little fake and flowery to my ears, but I'm admittedly more buttoned-up with my feelings. A lovely eulogy to a life lost too soon.
What do You think about Carrie And Me: A Mother-Daughter Love Story (2013)?
What a wonderful tribute to her daughter! My heart goes out to any parent who outlives their child.
