I finished this book in one weekend. Each turn of the page had me laughing and then crying and then laughing again. The author writes about her permanent headache and her search for a cure with both humor and seriousness. As a reader who suffers from chronic pain I could relate and empathize as she searches for a cure. She takes the reader along with her on various medical appointments, social events and to work and while these situations were funny they also provided insight into her frustration. I am not sure whether this is a compliment to her descriptions of her headache but a I actually got a pretty bad one myself while reading it. Luckily for me, mine went away. I highly suggest this book for anyone who suffers from a chronic illness or has friends and/or family who does. A good memoir about a headache that wouldn't go away. It's unusual for a headache memoir because the author suffered from a tension headache rather than a migraine/migraines, which tend to get more attention. Having a chronic headache is awful (I'm enormously thankful that I have never had to go through this) and you can either despair or develop a sense of humor. Fulda does the latter, and it's not overdone. She's also a good character (even though she's a real person) and you want her to get relief. I'd also add that it is well-written. Certainly not over-written and still engaging.
Story of a coping with a killer headache. I really enjoyed it.
