Cinderella Screwed Me Over (2013) - Plot & Excerpts
Sweet, funny, swoony read!Darby's been burned by relationships in the past, finally over the fairy tale ideal that she's going to get her Prince Charming. Enter Jake, the devastatingly handsome restaurateur (who happens to live in her building) who pursues Darby despite her adamant claim that love doesn't last. She's got a backlog of failed princes to prove it.With great humor (I'm still laughing at a personal connection to the Titanic movie reference) and a whole lot of heart, Cindi Madsen shows through Darby that fairy tales aren't for real, that relationships are work. But that doesn't mean we have to say good-bye to lots of swooning and a happily ever after.Perfect feel-good romance. This book had me at the title and cover. I mean, what girl could resist reading about all of her favorite Disney fairy tales vs reality? Cindi Madsen weaves a light and fun hearted read. Darby Quinn was a typical little girl who watched every single fairy tale ever put out by Disney. Over and over. She just knew her Prince Charming was out there looking for her. Until reality smacks her in the face in the form of one relationship after another that just doesn't quite pan out. She finally puts together case studies of how each boyfriend relates to a Disney prince and what the "rest of the story" probably was after the credits rolled. In other words, happily ever afters don't exist and we've all been brainwashed. Then along come Jake. The way they meet is cute and definitely fulfills the Cinderella theme. Darby has absolutely unbreakable rules about dating and relationships. Jake holds to each and every one of them. Still isn't enough for Darby. She did get a bit annoying in how much she kept looking for reasons why she and Jake wouldn't couldn't possibly ever work out. It was fun, though to hear about all her exes and which "prince" they were. But the big questions remains of whether or not Jake will make the cut. This is a quick and cute story if you're looking for pure entertainment.
