Cinq Jours Par Mois - Dans La Peau D'un Garçon (2009) - Plot & Excerpts
My mind is reeling. I picked up this book because it sounded absolutely ridiculous, but it turned out to be so good that I couldn't put it down until I finished it. You get to live inside the heads of both Jack and Jill and feel them struggle to be separate people but end up having thoughts and feelings crossover into each other's lives. The characters were utterly relatable. Sweet Jill. Rebellious Jack. Quirky Ramie. And adorable Tommy who I just wanted to hug and comfort. This book was strange, but amazing. This story had an interesting concept and, I thought, did a good job introducing the sometimes-sensitive topics surrounding identity and sexual orientation and the varying responses and reactions both conscious and not to encountering new and/or different ideas or ways of life. Jack, Ramie, and Tommy were great characters but I wasn't a huge fan of Jill, not because of how she dealt with Jack (because she was in a difficult and unasked for situation and her attitude and opinion was influenced by her parents), but for her way of handling the "get Tommy to ask me to Prom" scheme. Overall, a quick read and an entertaining way to pass an evening.
