Claimings, Tails, And Other Alien Artifacts (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

I really enjoyed how Lyn took the idea of D/S and turned it into a sci-fi alien species story. I was definitely in a different mindset when I read this. The miscommunication, the difference of expectations and the differences in what was acceptable and not acceptable between the Rownt and Humans had me captivated from the beginning. It did take me a while to make the connection that Lyn was trying to convey, but when I did, it all fell together and it worked. I really enjoyed this unique story. If I could, I'd give it 4 and 1/2 stars. The world building was good, but given the short length of the book, would have been even better with a longer story. Liam is a human trader on an alien world, there as part of a military outpost. Ondry is a native trader of this world who takes an interest in Liam. The way that the two main characters explore the cultural difference between them is my favorite part of this book. The author does a fantastic job of presenting different cultural views and the struggle to explain them to someone not familiar with those beliefs and concepts. Liam's gradual understanding of Ondry's true intent and the fact of its fit to his own nature is all presented in a way that I found fascinating and at times moving. I appreciated the fact that their biological differences were great enough to have to be accommodated for, as well as attitudes about sex. It makes sense that these would be as different as the cultural items are. The D/s aspect of the story added heat to the tale, as did the tail, lol. I'm so glad to know there's another book in the series, as I want to learn more about the alien culture and also see how their relationship develops.
