Older Harlequin historical reformatted into ebook. Good author, drawing from her Air Force experience. Fairly engrossing, smexy, and heart pounding adventurous romance between an antisocial frontiersman and a tomboy Countess, set in the frozen Sierra Nevada Mountains of California Territory, in 1840, when the Russians had forts along the coast (Fort Ross).Good story, with some links to history, for Josiah Jones isn't only a bear of a grumpy mountain man, he is also a government spy, on assignment from the US President. His task is to scout out the intentions of the French and British in the Northwest. War with Mexico is also likely.Memorable scenes: Trudging through the snow for miles on end. Brrrr! A vivid wolf attack. Tatiana intruding into the Native American's sweat lodge, where the men are naked, including Josiah Jones. Haha! The beautiful reunion scene at the end.I have read several ebooks from this author. I really liked Night of the Jaguar about a mercenary who rescues a nun and some babies from terrorists in the jungle. Another good adventurous romance is The Tiger's Bride, set in the waters off China. Each book involves children, and escaping from danger. Lovelace writrs some steamy love scenes.
