DEAD [as A Doorpost] (2000) - Plot & Excerpts

I tried my best to finish this series and give it a fair shot. I really tried to finish reading it! I've been trying to months on end. I just can't anymore. What set me over the edge, was the word twat for the 90 millionth time. Naomi Kramer tried, God bless her! It seemed like such a cool premise to write a series about. I really thought I would love these books and I tried to, but I can't continue reading them as I feel I may have a nervous breakdown if I continue. Words like twat and lard-arse are used so often that it makes me want to puke. Not because these words are vulgar and offensive, because let me tell you, I am extremely potty mouthed and vulgar, but because they loose the desired effect when used so horribly often. I would suggest that Kramer get a Thesaurus for Christmas. I hate writing bad reviews. This just makes me feel ten kinds of skeezy, because it's hard to put yourself out there as an author, and I do hope she continues to write for the love of it and not get discouraged, but I personally hate these books and can not continue to read them. John wakes up dead and has no idea how that happened. Linda, our favorite heavenly mentor, is assigned to help him adjust to his new existence. The only problem is John's wife, Melissa, has been pining away for John since she died and just wants to go back to the married life they once lived and doesn't much care for Linda's interference. Linda pulls out all the stops and helps John figure out how he died, in her usual, no-holds-barred, often intrusive, manner. Another fun short. To the point, sassy, with familiar characters revisited. I enjoy this writing style for short stories because the reader jumps right in to each character. It keeps the story moving rapidly and allows for more intimate, first hand knowledge of multiple characters. As much as I've really enjoyed this series, I think this entry pushes the limit of how many first person perspectives a story can coherently handle. As more characters get added to each story and the characters and relationships evolve the harder it will be to maintain. I look forward to reading more from this author.
