Dear Pen Pal (2009) - Plot & Excerpts

The book Dear Pen Pal is a series that is actually called The Mother and Daughter Book Club by Heather Vogel Frederick. This book is about five young girls that are best friends. They do a book club with their moms. The book has a lot of fights, drama, and surprises. This book may be getting you really excited or mad at the same time. I also prefer to read the books ahead of this so you can know what is happening. I would give this book a five star because it is really interesting and it shows the girls point of views on what they are thinking about. When one of the girls named Jess gets a anonymous scholarship to this private boarding school in Concord near her house. Jess arrives and realizes the girl that is her roommate is really mean. While shes at boarding school all of her friends are really mad that they have to wear uniforms to school. When they have the first book club their mom decides to make them have pen pals. Every single month or week they have to write to their pen pal about the book their reading, but when some of the girls are not reading will that break their book club? Also when one of the girls Megan’s grandmother come and lives with the Wong’s their whole family turns upside down. When Megan seems to show interest in her grandmother and her mom does not like it because she is feeling left out. Will they seem to get along together? Also the school principal does not like it how Megan is wearing accessories to school because it distracts the other students of wearing uniforms. Dear Pen Pal, by Heather Vogel Frederick is the third book in the Mother-Daughter book club series. I found this book really great because it really touches all the emotional parts of a girl’s life. It is really nice to see other girls go through problems you might have, and see how they have solved them. One thing that I really like about this book is how there are many fun surprises along the way, that you will never be bored. On the other hand, the book is a little too long for my liking. The character’s change, and, and see different places, so it is a little overwhelming. I wish that it that this book was made into two separate ones. Although this is true, I would still recommend to any 12 or 13 year old. You do not even have to start from the beginning of the series! There is something for everyone in Dear Pen Pal. From sports, to fashion, to pranks, reading, and much more. This is a series, and I will continue to read them!
