When Cat’s mother (an astronaut) is sent to the International Space Station, Cat is forced to live with her father, stepmother, and two stepsiblings. Geoffrey is just three and not a problem for Cat, but Olivia (aka Miss Prissy Pants) is the same age as Cat and the two immediately dislike each other. Enter a fair godmother more interested in instilling life lessons that granting wishes and the plot thickens. Now every time Cat speaks, toads come out of her mouth and every time Olivia speaks jewels and flowers come out of her mouth. When Geoffrey is kidnapped for Olivia’s jewels, the two step-sisters must come together to get him back. Can they get over their many differences for a common goal? Quirky and odd, but fun nonetheless.Price: $14.49Suitability: Grades 4-8Illustrations: N/AGenre: Chick LitPossible Censorship Issues: N/ACall #: FIC FRE Very sweet, entertaining story of Cat and her "evil" step sister who suddently start spewing things whenever they speak (toads and flowers). The circumstances end up bringing them together, of course, but not after all kinds of adventure, embarrassment, and travel.I'd recommend this to kids (likely girls) looking for an Ella Enchanted read-alike. The author is from our area so the story takes place here, which is also appealing to lots of kids.
