I've missed the Malory clan. In a time a when appearing to be perfect is the goal of The Ton, The Malory Family are very happy and comfortable being the antithesis of what is expected. It may even be argued, that James and Tony make it a point to push the enevople even futher. With time, all things change, at least somewhat. James and Tony are happily married and still in love as are two of thier children. This is a seemily peaceful time for the family. Into this time, Richard Allen has decided that he has fallen for George Malory. Yeah, that George Malory. The first problem is that he is in exile from England. The second problem is that he is engaged to Juila Miller, a very good friend of George. And lastly, James Malory. Julia and Richard hate each other and have since childhood. Not really hate each other. Richard is furious over the marriage and takes it out on Julia. Julia, being a child, reacts to his anger with being a brat. As with all Malory, there is violence. As expected there is James beating up someone, Richard, but also between Julia and Richard. She breaks his nose among other injuries. Richard just needs one more chance to woo George and decides that a ball thrown in her honor by Regan is the perfect chance. James, of course, is present. As is Julia. Only this Julia is an breath taking adult. While in disguise, both have a very strong attraction to each other. James also has an attraction to Richard and beats him. The next day, while Julia and Richard continue their fliration, she realizes who he is and tips her hand so that he realizes who she is also. After some passion infused argueing, they agree to trick toad Milton, Richard's father, into thiinking they wish to marry so they find the marriag contract and destroy it. Oh yes, they find time to make love also. Plans don't alsways go the way characters wish, and they wind up married. After an ultimatum, Julia sails with Richard. They realize they both love each other and she is willing to move for love.While I did enjoy this book, it is not my favorite Malory novel. This book lacked the fire and fun of the pervious books. It did remind me a little of George and James in that both the females were head strong, in charge of family homes and daring. The author does push the independent female more in this book with Julia running the family business successfully. And the males resort to violence first. And both males are not intimdated by strong females. The disappointment in learning this book is not about another family member of the Malory's, but friends was so heartbreaking. Why couldn't she write about Anthony's daughter "all grown up"? And then move onto James' daughter in then next book? :( So my beloved Malory series comes to an end. I'm just so sad. I did enjoy the book though. I liked the characters very much. I was just so sad Ms. Lindsey didn't move onto the two girls... :(
