I drove back to my place and tried to get ready for the day. I needed to call my parents and tell them about the baby before they found out another way.“Hey,” my dad answered on the second ring.“Hey, just calling to see what’s up.”“Not a lot. Should I get your mom?”“No. I think you can tell Mom what I’m about to tell you.” He didn’t say anything so I went on. “Do you remember Cynthia? The girl I dated for a bit while I was in New York?”“The model?”I heaved a sigh. “Yeah. Anyway, she called and she’s pregnant. I guess she wasn’t going to tell me and finally decided she should.”“Ummm. Wow, son. Maybe I should get your mom.”“Dad, really, I think you can tell Mom.”“Jackson—”I cut him off. “I’m running late so I have to go. Just let Mom know and I promise everything is fine.”
