This is what Fifty Shades would have been, were it not for the fact that E L James had no clue whatsoever how a submissive/dominant relationship works, nor what BDSM is--nor the fact those are two completely different things. This is Fifty Shades minus the mind-bogglingly stupid "contract", minus the glass slipper and the billionaire who gives Cinderella a helicopter ride, minus the pseudo-virginal horseshit. It is essentially Fifty Shades of Grey plus Fifty Shades of IQ. The author of this (supposed) memoir is an intelligent, capable woman--not a brain dead idiot bimbo--who winds up in a submissive relationship with a normal person whom she would feasibly meet on any given day--not a multibillionaire who immediately falls head over heels for her because she's dumb enough to compliment his poorly scripted dialogue.In other words, if you liked Fifty Shades of Grey, you will hate this book.If you're wondering what an actual submissive relationship is like, read this book. If you've ever been in one (at either end), you'll probably find it quite titillating. If neither one of those things applies to you, this book is probably not your style. Sophie Morgan is likeable enough. She could very well be the girl next door. It's a pity she isn't a very well researched girl. She is vaguely thoughtful, and on a very rare occasion insightful, but not in a relatable way. The text echoes 50 Shades in a rather unpalatable way - dangerous in that it suggests all submissives are bumbling their way through and aren't self aware enough, or aware of their partners to build meaningful relationships. It's the worst sort of brain candy.
