Wow I'm blown away...this was quite an emotional read for me.William is so repressed and lost, just existing really and plodding through life trying to fit in. It was a big step for him to befriend Colby and a very good decision on his part.He comes to realise a lot about himself and through the letters he finds and reads; he begins to accept himself.Another gem by Kim Fielding!!! It's rare that an M/M book makes an impact to the point that it makes you want to research something in history, but this book did that for me. Even though I was born in the 50's I had no idea how society had filed away their own homophobia in a neat little package and called those who were different "mentally ill and a sexual deviant ". I will not spoil the book for you but it is a MUST READ. Today hardcore right wing Christians still try to "cure" gays but because it so obviously wrong morally, they have started denying that they ever had that view, just ask Michelle Bachmann and her husband Marc. The more this reading genre grows with mainstream America the more lgbt community will come closer to having what they deserve. The same rights and acknowledgements as all other Americans.Books like this one show the face of injustice in our past that must never be repeated.
What an amazing story. Wow! So emotional, so heartbreaking, but beautiful.
