Die Kleine Wolke Cloudette (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

Cloudette is a little cloud who wishes she was big. She wants to start thunderstorms and give kids days off of school with snow. However, no one seems to need such a small cloud. One day, she is blown off course by a massive storm and finds herself somewhere she's never been before. There she meets a frog who is lamenting that his pond has all dried up. Cloudette realizes that she can do something to help, and she strains and strains until she makes it rain. She restores the pond and then sets out looking for other jobs to do.Cloudette finds that there is always something to share, no matter your stature or status. She is looking for her place in the world, and finds that she can always do something to help others, and that she is important no matter how big she is. That's the most adorable cloud I've ever seen. And the cloud even learns a lesson that will be helpful for the kiddies. Very nice. Could definitely work in a preschool storytime, and would work as a lap-read and read-alone as well. I don't know why, but Cloudette makes me think of Kami. :-)9/19/12 & 9/20/12: Small groups on both days (20 or less). This worked well as an opener. The children enjoyed the pictures. I left some of the spoken comments out and included a few where they were needed for the story. The book may have been a bit long for the Wed. group, but the Thu. group was fine with it. They loved seeing Cloudette find something big and important to do. And I saw small smiles on kids' and adults' faces about the little rumbling part. ;-) Great opener for Things I Love storytime theme.6/18/14: Used in my preschool Weather theme. This was the opener and it went well. They all that she was a cute cloud. Left out most of the spoken comments. They enjoyed the book.
