I don't know what to take away from reading this book. I loved the premise and wanted to see what happens to the protagonist, but it was unsatisfying. I'm not opposed to sour endings; I'm an avid reader and can handle that. I think my distress is in what the book says about such avid readers that somehow end up having very empty lives. I would have liked to see the protagonist a bit more developed, more open to life (or at least her attitude somehow justified). I love Audrey Niffenegger's art, and I loved this book when I read it. It turned out to be one that haunted me. I totally understand the protagonist's obsession with her night bookmobile, and I've found myself often dreaming of what my own night bookmobile would be like in the years since I first read this book. I started imagining compiling a list of every book I've ever read, and this led me to joining Goodreads. I'm very aware that my Goodreads book list is only a fraction of all the books I've read. I'm always remembering another book I read once, but I have no idea of the title or the author. I know that I'll never be able to complete my list, and I love the idea that it's all been taken care of for me in another dimension.
