4.5 starsI was given this book, and to be honest, wasn't sure if I'd like it. I typically only read novels with a score of 3.50+ but I decided to keep an open mind even though the Time Traveler's Wife wasn't my fav. After the 50 some boring pages it got interesting to the point that I just couldn't put it down. And the fact that my copy is a paper back instead of housed neatly inside my Kindle, shows how much I liked it if I was carting that thing around like my new bible. Anyways, absolutely loved it. I didn't give it the full five stars because it felt incomplete at the end. What happened to Robert? What was the plan he so easily thought of? I also felt a bit confused throughout the book regarding Edie and Elspeth's quarrel. (I get it as a whole, but the way it was described threw me during some parts) And why the detective? Maybe I'm just missing something? Besides those, I very much enjoyed this novel and almost wish for a sequel! Although I loved the well-informed and creepy scenes set in the wonderful Highgate Cemetary (where Audrey N. is apparently an official guide now!), I was disappointed in this novel. I adored The Time Traveler's Wife - one of my favourite books of all time - and had no problem suspending my belief for the two totally-believable characters at its heart, but my problem with this ghost story is that I just didn't like any of the characters enough to care what happened to them (with the possible exception of Martin, struggling valiantly with his crippling OCD). And I just didn't want to suspend my disbelief here, so the story never got under my skin.
What do You think about Her Fearful Symmetry (2009)?
This is a tragic and fascinating ghost story that doesn't scare you so much as make you wonder....
