I love everything Joe Hill does, and this graphic novel series is amazing. I'm constantly in awe of Gabriel Rodriguez's artwork. It's so detailed and technically perfect, even when handling surreal/supernatural elements like spirits and shadows. This series is epic, full of wonder and horror, and every bit as good as Gaiman's Sandman. I'm thrilled, as a horror junkie, to find a horror comic that is so rewarding and has such depth. Everything about it is great. I'm already reading volume 5. I'm choked. Choked that I am just now emerging from the cave. That these shadows were all around me and I am just now discovering them.Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez have created a masterpiece. Sure, I'm only 3 trades deep, but there seems to be no signs of waning perfection.I don't wish I could go back in time to read them monthly. I probably wouldn't have appreciated them the same way. This work forces you to examine your context, wherever you've been thrown. Do yourself a favour, track down the first volume and begin your descent into unfettered devotion to Locke & Key. Turns out the key was in my pocket all along.
