This is a fun story on many levels. The "opposites attract" scenario is always great (when well written–which this one is), and the characters of a librarian and a car thief–I mean, really? I couldn’t wait to read the story when I first saw the blurb and must say, I did not regret it.Rhys may be well educated and knowledgeable, but he is also socially inept, arrogant, and prejudiced. Now, I like bookworms as much as the next person (being one myself, ahem), but this guy really pushed the limits of what is "acceptable nerdiness". I was screaming "You need to get a life" at him within the first few pages. His treatment of Darren is shameful, and his learning curve is steep. Luckily, he manages to dig himself out of the life-size hole he has dug himself with his preconceived ideas, and ends up a much better human being than I expected.Darren is a fascinating character. Definitely from the wrong side of the tracks, he is likeable and I felt sorry for him–not just because he has to face the irate Rhys. His life isn’t easy, and he also has a LOT to learn. I hated that it was so hard for him, but the relief when he manages to finally be honest with himself is immense. Not that things become easy even after that, but at least there was a glimmer of hope. The encounters of these two men are explosive–in every sense and on every level. Their banter is fun, the sex they have is hot, and their relationship extremely stormy. All of that makes it all the more rewarding once they do work things out. If you like stories with a lot of heat, characters that don’t immediately fall into each other’s arms (but would like to), and if you enjoy opposites figuring out how to coexist, you will probably like this book. What a delightful little read. I say little because it is short – only 101 pages that read very fast, just a couple of hours. Rhys and Darren are opposites that aren’t really opposites at heart. It just looked that way at first. Hence the title of the story. *grin* I liked these two. They each had things in their lives that they had to overcome – like huge chips on their shoulders. As “true love” will, they brought out the best in each other. I found that very sweet. I can’t say much more or I will be giving away spoilers. Can’t have that, but get the book. You’ll like it.I see that this is part of a series of books by different authors called A Mind is a Sexy Thing. This must be what there was before boxed sets. *grin* Considering this story, the mind is truly a “sexy thing.” I was provided a copy of this in exchange for an honest review.
What do You think about Don't Judge A Book... (2012)?
Oh this one needs a sequel in the worse way. Love those geeky librarians.
