Genre: Informational Copyright: 2009I really like this book! I think I may get it for my classroom. This book talks about animals that live at certain depths of the ocean. The pictures give the names of the sea life and how they survive. Background illustrations keep getting darker the deeper we travel into the ocean. At the end of the book, you can find more information about the animals and the size of them compared to the human body. This book will get kids excited about the ocean and its creatures. This book is AMAZING! I find that most children's books about biology tend to be almost too sugar coated and gives very little information. "Down, Down, Down: A Journey to the Bottom of the Sea" is the perfect blend of knowledge and fun. The pictures are great for children, but at the same time they are getting real knowledge about the creates that live in our oceans. One of the cool features of this book is the scale that is on the right hand side of the pages. It starts your dot at the surface of the water, but was you turn the pages and go lower into the ocean, the dot moves as well to show you how deep you are as well as how much sunlight gets to those parts of the ocean. Something else that is exciting about this book, is they do not just have the typical animals that students know about. The book introduces them to a load of new animals that most students never even think about when they are learning about the ocean. Over all this book is absolutely fantastic. I will definitely be adding it to my collection.I would recommend this book for grades 2nd through 5th.
Takes you page by page, deeper into the sea. The most mysterious creatures lurk there!
