this is one of the best mid evil times fantasy series that I have read in a long time. It is very captivating and makes you want more. Each of the last 3 books in the series is a continuation but each one from a different person's prospective which adds a great depth to the series. I'm looking forward to the next book. Elizabeth Moon is up there with the best fantasy authors. I suggest that any who enjoys this type of story read them they will not be disappointed. Well, betrayal and intrigue abound in this series, but there's still something missing for my taste. Don't get me wrong, the writing is great: fluid and precise prose, well-drawn characters with believable motivations, and thoughtful world-building. But there's not enough true danger to satisfy. The heroes and heroines suffer enough setbacks to teach them humility and show their true character, but the good guys always seem to win / heal / escape... prevail. And there's entirely too much *deus ex machina* along the way.I will read more, and put this in the pile of books I'll use to introduce my kids to the genre.
