A very sweet, fun and imaginative book about the many uses animals in the woods think a book is for--is it a hat for a bear? a table for a family of mice on a picnic?--before they learn that a book's main purpose is for reading. The illustrations are just wonderful, I love the whimsy, the humor and the textures. Since I can remember my childhood self using books for doll houses and Barbie rafts, I can certainly relate to the forest creatures curiosity and ingenuity, though of course my favorite thing to do with a book has always been to read it :-) With a delightful twist on the story where a variety of people encounter various parts of an elephant, this book celebrates books. In this one, woodland animals encounter a book on the forest floor and decide how best to use it. Of course, in the end, a child shows the animals the original purpose of the book and reads it out loud. It turns out to be about some woodland animals who encounter a book.
Such a cute book for showing a love of books and reading. Nice illustrations, as well.
