The adventure continues! First, the delightfully creepy Mr. Dark narrates the tale of how he was originally placed in his stone tomb. It is the tale of the seemingly-young Dunster Happ, a warlock in the service of the Empire who is asked to join a secret society known only as the Boxing League, a society dedicated to tracking down and imprisoning such threats as Baba Yaga and Mr. Dark. This was a fun tale, and not just because the recruiter was apparently based on Liam Neeson's turn as Qui-Gon Jinn. Seriously, I could hear his voice it was so spot-on him. Not even joking. Then we turn our attention to Fabletown's Business Office, now lost in some forgotten realm. Bad enough for the Fables to lose all their most potent artifacts (now mostly rendered useless by Mr. Dark's unraveling of the various spells in effect) and information stored there, but poor Bufkin is trapped in the dark with nobody for company but the head of Frankenstein's monster, the magic mirror, and the Barleycorn Brides that he plants. Well, there's also Baba Yaga, now free of her bonds and out for revenge, but she's not very good company....You'll never see everyone's favorite flying monkey the same again, trust me. Meanwhile, Frau Totenkinder deals with a challenge to her authority as leader of the 13th Floor, and finally takes up her true aspect once again, setting off to the Homelands to seek a way to defeat Mr. Dark once and for all. Finally, Flycatcher is forced to face the prospect of getting blood on his hands when one of his Goblin subjects is accused of murder and the verdict isn't even remotely in question....What can I say that I haven't before? I love this series, and will keep reading it until they stop publishing it. Which I hear is soon, much to my chagrin....
