Oversized couches and armchairs, warm rugs, and a real wood-burning fireplace all emanated a soothing warmth. Just the way he’d intended it when he’d furnished it. “Come,” he said, taking her hand in his. He led her upstairs and down a corridor to the last room on the right. He pushed open the door and gestured for her to go on in. A huge, king-sized sleigh bed rested in the corner. As she stared at it, he smelled her fear. He wrapped his arms around her. “Relax.” He gently eased her leather jacket off her shoulders and tossed it aside.
