He’d come here frequently over the past couple of weeks, volunteering at the kitchen and helping Harper how he could while the Full Spoon was still open. She was resigned to the shutdown and had begun informing those who depended on her for a meal about what was to come. They argued, tried to come up with ideas on how to save it, and then as the week progressed stopped showing up for lunch. Harper said they were probably looking for a new spot or didn’t want to rely on her anymore since they wouldn’t have the place for much longer. Theo could see her heart breaking for it. She thought she was a failure, and every time he or Flynn attempted to talk to her about it, come up with a new solution, she brushed them off, unwilling to discuss the matter…or how it affected her. It was usually around closing time, as she and the other volunteers wiped down the kitchens and said good night to the latecomers, that Theo would come up to her private sanctuary, try to parse what was going on in Harper’s mind.
