Framed Ink: Drawing And Composition For Visual Storytellers (2010) - Plot & Excerpts

This book just blew me away. From the moment it got delivered and I had my first peaks into it I just couldn't put it down without reading half way through it. It's what I always wanted: knowledge through images. The illustrations are stylish and cool, without being too overworked and still clearly subservient to the educational purpose. I was particularly fascinated by the first part of the book (even on a 2nd pass) which was of bigger interest to me for concept art/illustration, but even the second part, more about sequences of (moving) pictures/frames such as in movies or comic books taught me a lot of things. I feel I learned a lot about good images, but also insights into how the movies I like do their magic to guide & keep the eye interested. Very very cool book. Best composition book I know of, with a lot of lessons in storytelling and great insights into everything from camera work to framing and perspective. Way cool!PS: i like his ending thoughts that an average and old car with a gps/map will get you to the destination faster than an expensive high end sports car driving in the wrong direction. This book is an excellent instruction guide for framing scenes in animation and comics. I highly recommend it to people who are learning about either art form. The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is because his art style is so dramatic and individual that it could be distracting at times. I would have preferred more style variation in the example images, to better see how placement, lighting, and flow, create a powerful narrative no matter what your individual aesthetic is.
