I'm not very much into shifter stories. I think that is because my first m/m with that theme was one I didn't like very much. It was quite clichéd and the way the characters were written was just not my thing. BUT I still read them sometimes and I'm glad I picked this one up, because I really liked it and I already started the second volume.The only thing that confused me sometimes was that it seemed like they would suddenly get mad at each other (Chris more so than Dylan), like, out of the blue. That felt a bit awkward. But then again it portrays how uncertain (and in Dylan's case also afraid) they both are and how this can lead to snapping at each other out of frustration. I have to say that I felt a litte bit sorry for Andy... This book reminded more of the kind of werewolf stories that I read back in the 80's and 90's before shifter stories moved out of their uneasy spot in the horror section and into romantic paranormal. It focuses on one individual having to deal with the ramifications of being turned into a werewolf with no larger supernatural world to help him.The love story is very well done, building slowly in an organic way that few books are able to manage. The writing is as good as it gets for this genre and all of the characters are believable - even the minor ones. My only complaint is that at times the story dragged. The ending was satisfying, but leaves the door open for a sequel.
