He was across the street waiting for them when it happened. He’d only turned his head for a moment, but that moment changed his life forever, extinguished the flame of contentment and happiness that had given him so much joy. He was running, but his legs felt like they were stuck in quicksand, each step painfully slow, each second feeling like a minute.
