What do You think about Guilty (2008)?
CD/Unabridged/Romance: This book was so bad. Surprisingly bad. And after everything was said and done, our heroine isn't punished for being complicit in a murder. Here are my updates from Goodreads:03/13 ttt10.0% t"I'm just about done with the first disc and I am already seeing problems. Our "smart" heroine is in debt for $100K in college loans, only to get a paycheck-to-paycheck job? Really? Were you a C student? For a $100K, you should have gotten into a different branch of law!"03/13 ttt10.0% t"Then there was the cliche "talking toddler in the courthouse gallery" during an all day assault trial. Really? Who does that?"03/14 ttt10.0% t"On disc 2 and police procedure was thrown out the window. Letting civilians, including paramedics and reporters into a unsecured crime scene? Seriously? And Kate can take her briefcase out of the crime scene? NO! It is evidence at a crime scene now. Kate, as an officer of the court you should damn well know that."03/18 ttt20.0% t"Middle of disc #3: So you're telling me you had all that tragic drama you witnessed and you can sit in a car and have a calm heart-to-heart with your 4 grader? Seriously?"03/31 ttt70.0% t"Disc 8: Dude uses the "dead baby card" to get the chick in bed...and doesn't use a condom! For someone who doesn't want a commitment and doesn't trust her, he just made a potential 18-year mistake. And another thing, [paraphrasing] "You can tell me what's in your juvenile record or I'll just get a warrant." Dude, get a warrant! She lies like a dog!"04/01 ttt80.0% t"Stop listening to her. She is a liar."04/02 ttt80.0% t"Disc 10: Rolled my eyes so high, I almost got them stuck. You can't get DNA results in ONE DAY no matter what your pull is. Give me a break." Skip it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Borrowed this book from a friend to read and it started out well. I settled in for what I thought was going to be a gripping and fascinating read. A little over half-way through the book, my reading became frustrating, when our heroine begings to lie one time too many to be truly believable. When the ending finally arrived, I flipped back and forth the final three pages several times, certain that my copy of the book was missing some pages. What a disappointing ending! It's been a while since I've been this unsatisfied with the ending of a book. A mystery that never really explains whodunit and why. Yes to a certain extent we are told (not shown) who did it, but not like you would expect. This is my first Karen Robards book. It was an easy read so I'll probably take her on again, but I won't be seeking her books out.

Finally! A somewhat comeback book for Robards, in my opinion. lately her books have been dull and insignificant, but when i read the syniposis for this, i was intrigued and decided to read it, although i'd sworn off reading her books. I din't expect to like it, but i did.In the beginning there were some editorial mistakes that gnawed at me, and i hated the fact that there would long bouts of insight into the characters psyche mid-conversation, so when the other character answered I'd be like, 'what is she talking about?' and have to flip back a page.Kate and Tom were likable enough characters, i like how their relationship evolved, although Kate's rational (for keeping her past a secret) was illogical at times for a woman who has a career that deals most in logic. The "street punks" seemed a bit contrived and at times laughable, their motives downright useless (most criminals at the level Robards was aiming for are not that careless nor stupid, their actions are well calculated and usually more complex...but hey whatever works for your story.) There is so much to pick apart within/about this story, but i was just happy to have enjoyed it. This is by far not the best romantic-thriller, but it kept me reading well into the night at some parts, and i have not felt that for a Robards book since To Trust a Stranger
