Kevin Leman is a psychologist who has 5 kids and has written 30 books. Here's his scenario: Kid behaves badly, Mum says no to cookies and milk:'"Honey, I told you we're not having cookies and milk today." Matthew was stunned. He opened his mouth to argue, then walked away sadly.'Here's what would happen in real life: Matthew was stunned. He screamed for 2 hours and threw a chair at the wall. Or: Matthew was stunned. He argued all afternoon, all night, and continued arguing until his parents were so exhausted they dropped dead and he ate the cookies.I may exaggerate a little. But I know for damn sure that if I told Miss 6 that if she didn't get dressed quickly she'd have to wear her pyjamas to school she'd say, "fine, and I'm not wearing shoes either!".Say it once, turn your back, walk away? As if. I know I'm gonna get yelled at but I didn't LOVE this book... Not by a long shot! Maybe I'll be singing it's praises when my kids are older but I'm just not a fan of "methods to discipline"Or "correct" your children... Christian or not, and I've seen the author in real life, and I know he's a great dad- I just don't like being told what to do and I thought some of the advice was quite frankly HORRIBLE! I believe in each parent seeking God for what they need to do with their individual child... God has given us the ability, in His strength alone to disciple and raise our children... But it's gonna take more of your time and energy than it would to just sit and read this book! Just because God convicted mr Leman that he should raise his children this way, does not mean it is "the way" or even that it will "work" with your child! If we are even wanting a "new kid by Friday" we should probably get off our butts and stop reading and spend more TIME with our children or on our knees seeking our heavenly fathers wisdom for what they INDIVIDUALLY need. I mean, come on, just get to know YOUR child, pray for wisdom and direction... Let God lead you down your "parenting path." That's just my opinion, and if you don't like it, that's ok bc this author has a "new book every Friday"... Maybe I'll like and give a thumbs up review to that one?
