I don’t know that I have ever read a series where each book was better than the one before it. And it started out good to begin with! Head Rush was fast paced and suspenseful. I was riveted as Justine worked her way through what she thought was the truth to discover what really happened. It was easy to feel worried, anxious and angry right along with her. How would she discover what was taken from her? And what kind of trouble would she get into in the process? Honestly it was one of those stories where I just wanted to call in sick to stay home and read (sadly I did go to work). I saw one reviewer complain that it was too much Justine and there was no mystery since it was resolved at the end of book 2 and I kept reading and thinking, “did we read the same book?” There was so much more to unfold in the final installment of this trilogy. I also enjoyed watching so many of the characters grow and change during the series, no one more than Justine and Packard, but some of the other characters as well. Well, maybe except for Simon, but he’s awesome as is. These were people who you could love, flaws and all, and I wonder if that wasn’t part of the point. Our flaws make us who we are and it is up to us to choose to rise above them or not.So in the end I sit here, sad because once again Carolyn Crane has written a book that I couldn’t read fast enough, but was extremely sad when it was over. And to top it all off, now I have to worry about pinpoint pain in my head. ;-) I was hesitant at first, not thinking I was going to like a series about people with "superpowers". But oh my did I quickly get over that. I ABSOLUTELY, UNEQUIVOCALLY, LOVE THIS SERIES. I wasn't a HUGE fan of the way the it ended, but I don't mind because I am grateful just to have known these people. To be honest, I'm a little sad to leave them. I've already read another book, but it felt like a hollow rebound relationship, empty love-making while thinking about the one I loved and lost.
What do You think about Head Rush (2011)?
A very satisfactory conclusion to the series. I'll be looking for the author's other novels.
