Marco Vieri has returned from the military in a sorry state and the last thing he needs is the distraction in the form of a very old, good friend...whom he's starting to see as someone more than a friend. For Alyssa Scott, Marco has always been the one she's loved, and the hero she's always worshipped along with her brother. The brother's best friend and younger sister dynamic is a little different in this book - a feat considering the same trope features so often in the Brazen line, yet it's probably one of those I'll always remember. Alyssa's self-sacrificing and sweet nature won me over and while Marcos's idiotic but special brand of tortured heroic quality made me want to stone him, I found myself rooting for their HEA the whole way. BEYOND DISAPPOINTING!!!I can't believe this was written by Laura Kaye!! It was SO cliche, slow, simple and worst of all--predictable! I won't go so far as to say I hated it, it was well written, especially Marco's perspective--with him she did excellent--but Aly was naive, and in many parts a bit childish. The predictable thing is the worst though, you knew exactly what was going to happen in the next three chapters at all times. For such a tired storyline (lil sister longs for big brothers best friend) I'd really hoped she could have spiced it up and added something fresh and new--so I was just pissed when I finished reading it. If you really want to read it, wait until Amazon puts it on their daily deals/FREE list.
