Interesting start with an American bible basher family girl finding cracks in her perfect world as she ponders why she has brown eyes in a family of blue eyes. Her real dad then goes off into his childhood memories incorporating Islam and I got disinterested in his minute recall of his childhood - mother versus grandparents. I lost interest and had to either renew the overdue book or cut my losses. I did the latter. I found this book on the Librarian's Choice shelf at my library. All the librarians contribute their titles and I don't go wrong when I choose one from there. This story centers around religious beliefs and fitting them into the circumstances of life with all its confusions and mistakes and problems. Along the way, it touches on the war in Iraq and the toll war can take on decent young people who are thrown into horror.
A sweeping ambitious tale that manages to be profound and groundbreaking at the same time.
