House Held Up By Trees (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

When the house was new, it had a perfect yard with no weeds or trees. The father always worked on the lawn while the children played in the woods in the surrounding areas. When the children leave home, the father eventually leaves also...... Leaving the house to the elements. This is a celebration of life and nature. How nature has the power to lift us up and provide comfort. Art is digital and gouache. Love this story. A little wistful. This book it sweet and lovely. It's too sophisticated for most readers though and is not an appropriate choice for storytime unless you have an unusually old group (middle elementary school at least) who are looking for a book with no easy meaning or moral. It would appeal to adults and could be nice for one-on-one reading with precocious children who are bored with traditional storybooks. I found this book a touch melancholy for most children.

Read at work. Nice story about aging and nature taking over. Beautiful illustrations.
