This was a hard book for me to get through. I found myself skimming through the book as many of the scenes were re-caps from another point of view – the exact same scene. The way the book bounces from point of view to point of view sometimes it took a few paragraphs before you could figure out whose head you were in at the time. The relationship between Mark and Quinn was interesting, but the in between stuff got a little long. Originally I gave this book 4 stars after finishing it, but in light of my new "honesty" policy I have downgraded this to a 3 star read. The premise was good and I looked forward to reading about two hot spooks in a 90s setting. I kind of understood why the author felt the need to repeat many scenes to take in the different points of view, even though I felt it was overkill, BUT I did not feel the connection between the characters and by the end of the book I still did not have much of a clue about what Mann really thought about Vincent. Did they have an earlier connection. why all of a sudden have we jumped into these games they were playing. I found that lack of background info intensely frustrating. I stopped and started this book too many times to count but persevered and kept coming back to it because I wanted to see where the characters would go, but by the end I was disappointed and frustrated. The book lacked detail in parts, was repetitive in others and there was a decided lack of character history to help me understand why the characters were the way they were. I also expected a lot more you humour which I did not get. It's still not a bad story and there are more in the series, but I won't be continuing with it.
