I Bring The Fire: Part I Wolves (2000) - Plot & Excerpts
I read this in e-version. I have a tendency to load books that I can just pick up and put down since I read on the treadmill. I got so engrossed in this one that I went long past my exercise time and I actually scheduled an extra workout day so I could finish it. That rarely happens! The book moves right along; the worlds they visit are memorable. Amy is a very engaging character, her disbelief is what we'd all feel if faced with the situations but she is tougher than she thinks. Her grandmother is just as much fun and as for Loki, the troublemaker, well, the book leaves you wondering what he will be up to next. Definitely an engaging read. Interesting story idea. The writing was a bit rough, but I liked the nuggets of insight imbedded here and there in the story. It was a new twist on old Nordic myths in a contemporary setting. Amy is coming home from veterinary school to stay with her grandma, and to work. She encounters Loki along the way, who is trying to save his sons, and getting into a bit of trouble, as usual, in the process. I realize this story is part of a series, but it annoys me when a book doesn't come to some sort of resolution, and instead ends mid-action, as this one did.

Thoroughly enjoyed it--engaging light reading. Pretty sure I'll be buying the second one asap!

Loki in the modern world, hadrosaurs living in elf kingdoms: fun. Ridiculous ending: not fun.

The present tense thing threw me off more than a little, but it was still a good story.

I quite enjoyed this book. Maybe it's the oddness of the character of Loki... not sure.
