I Need My Monster (2009) - Plot & Excerpts

I Need My Monster by Amanda Noll was a story I stumbled upon on a website called StorylineOnline.com. The book, read by Rita Moreno, was a truly immerse experience. Not only was the original story of a boy who had lost his monster interesting, but then add in a well acted out voice and animations that went along with the book's pages and you got yourself a riveting story! The boy's regular monster had gone fishing, and the only solution left with the main character is to find another. When he becomes too picking picking out his replacement monster, trouble finds itself right under your bed. The illustrations were carefully crafted with darker colors, but only to draw your attention to the brighter colors of the spooky scary monsters. The website even added extra animations for the monsters dragging their claws across the ground, and their huffing and their puffing. The characters were brought to life through these simple voices and sound effects. However, that was the most enjoyable part of the book. There was an initial problem of a young boy not wanting to settle for anything less than his monster. Gabe, the monster, was perfect and made the boy scared to leave his bed. Girl monsters and monsters with long tongues just were not going to cut it. Ethan looks under his bed to be sure that his monster is there only to find a note that tells him that his monster has gone fishing. A series of substitute monsters arrive, but they just aren't Ethan's monster. How will he ever get to sleep without his beloved monster? What will keep him in the bed? The book is a very humorous take on monsters under the bed. I would think that this would really help kids who seem to conjure up those monsters and are terrified. The humor and the quirkiness of the various monsters will have them giggling. A good outcome from any story.

What do You think about I Need My Monster (2009)?

This was cute. Little weird. I guess the moral is "better the devil that you know." ?
