I chose this as the first book to make my seven-year-old read aloud this summer. I did not realize how perfect it would be. The illustrations interested her enough that I could distract her a little from how much she hates reading, and the repetition of the poetry helped her recognize new words. Most importantly, the message of the book was heartening for us both. You don't know how good it can be if you never try. 36 months - we read this book in the morning and in the afternoon O climbed the chain ladder at the playground for the first time and then repeated it about twenty times! She's always been a swing kid and 98% of the time never even touches the climbing equipment and slides. Yay for books! If you don't try you'll never know if you can do it. Now I hear myself saying to her "be brave and give it a try, you won't know if you don't try". :)
What a lovely tale about trying hard and making decisions! Liked the accompanying illustrations!

A beautiful tale about taking chances. A good choice for the change resistant!
