Žij A Buď Drood (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

Simon R. Green is my favorite author, and I can always count on him to give me a consistent character with Eddie Drood; quick as hell, romantic, funny, with just a touch of egotism. I love this guy. The love of his life, Molly Metcalf is just the kind of girl I want to hang out with, but would always be a little afraid of where we would go. What I love about this particular novel is that Eddie is committed to rescuing his family, who he has mixed feelings about to say the least. He's not all love and gushiness about how much he loves his family, who by any standards is screwed up. He rescues them out of loyalty and because it's what he's been bred to do. Anything for the family. The whole time he questions their tactics, while using some questionable ones himself. He's multifaceted, something that Green does better than many. The cast of characters he gives us is always amusing, as are the landscapes he introduces, and while some parts become a bit predictable, it never makes me lose interest. The 6th installment in The Secret Histories has continued the Simon R. Green tradition of action, adventure, humor and characters that you love to spend time with.**SPOILERS if you haven't read book 5 or this one!!**This book picked up directly where book 5 ends: with Eddie's family missing and the Drood family estate in tatters, something that is unheard of in their world. After all, no one takes on a Drood and lives to tell about it. Eddie, now being the Last Drood, and his girlfriend, Molly Metcalf, set out to find who could have done this to the Droods, and how.Simon R. Green's writing never disappoints: it flows and draws the reader in. I am personally not a big fan of his Nightside series, from whence this series sprang. I just like Eddie and his Drood family more.
