Il Braccialetto Della Felicità (2012) - Plot & Excerpts
Too long. That's my first initial reaction to "The Charm Bracelet." I read it as an ebook and it was over 700 pages. If that had been action packed drama, I might not have minded. But the truth is, it was 700 pages of knowing what was going to happen and then waiting for it to materialize. The writing was adequate. I sometimes found the details drab and adding nothing to the atmosphere or progression of the story.I wondered why we should care that Holly's (our female protagonist) ex came back into her life. He had no bearing on the outcome of the story. He appeared and disappeared just as quickly. It just seemed like there were details added to the plot line that didn't need to be there - like Holly's best friend's boyfriend dying in 9/11. Tragic, but again it didn't have anything to do with the story - didn't even make Holly's friend a better character, or add to our understanding of her behavior. She was such a secondary character that I'm surprised she took up as much space in the story as she did. Most of the secondary characters were very one dimensional, and the primary characters not much more than that. The ending was totally unsatisfactory. I spent 700 pages reading about how Holly and Greg (the hero) came together and then had none of the fulfillment of the relationship that developed. The premise of a charm bracelet was cute. I liked the background stories of the charms themselves and the stages of life they represented. But in the end, I felt as if I had read a knock off of the movie "Sleepless in Seattle." And I may be the only woman in America to say this - but I thought that movie was just okay as well. Recomendo!
