In The Midst Of Life (2010) - Plot & Excerpts

This one is less of a recollection of her memories. It has some of her stories, but there are many thoughts on how one dies now, and how one used to die. Her point is in the old days you used to die at home, in peace with minimal suffering, whereas now we keep everyone alive at all costs- regardless of the quality of life. I think it's actually very important for people to read this, or other books recommended in the book. Whether we like it or not, everyone dies. I think the way we view death now, compared to how it used to be viewed is very different. My father recently passed away and this became very clear. People used to know how to handle death, and that it was apart of life. They say bodies. Now we are very removed from it. This book touches on many of the important points that most people don't think about until they are about to pass away. Even then, as pointed out in the book, maybe people don't even acknowledge it then. She mentions religion many times in this book, but I never found it preachy. It was more just her thoughts. This was my least favourite of Worth's 4 novels. Though it has a touch of her wonderful storytelling magic, it was more a 'death manifesto' than anything else. While she seemed to enjoy telling the stories in her first 3 books, I feel this was the book she NEEDED to write. Her calling to hospice care was a great driving force in her life and the information given in this book is a testament to that. I suppose the topic of death itself, in it's most raw form, made it impossible for me to love this book but I would recommend it to anyone with a medical inclination.

What do You think about In The Midst Of Life (2010)?

So boring & dry. I ended up skipping parts of it which I usually don't do.
