Jennifer Worth Collection 3 Books Box Set[Call The Midwife, Shadows Of The Workhouse, Farewell To East End] (2000) - Plot & Excerpts

It was so exciting to hear some of these stories about having children in the 1950's. I was so surprised to find that prenatal care has not changed that much in over half a century. I listened to this book on tape while nursing my newborn baby twins and could identify with the many of the stories of newborns. Please be advised, that this book does go into detail of the horrors of prostitution and work houses. The complete collection included:Call the Midwife. Farewell to the East End. Shadows of the Workhouse. The second two books were really interesting and informative, and told in great detail about the suffering that families went through because of extreme poverty and from the mass loss of lives from teberculosis, amongst other things including life in the overcrowded, bug-infested tenement buildings. The stories of brutality and cruelty in the workhouses were heartbreaking.Frank and Peggy, and little Jane's stories will stay with me forever, as will the story of Joe Collett. But for me, the first book, Call the Midwife was brilliant and best of all. I could have kept reading it forever. I would highly recommend the whole collection to anyone who has an interest in memoir type books.
