It flicks from different POV's from Lucas, Rayne, a girl just trying to survive, Lucas' sister, Gabe a strange boy with many hidden secrets and even the Believer's themselves with a few more sprinkled here and there.While it does have similar plots to other more modern stories, it has a different tact which is highly likeable and takes you on an interestingride.The ending, while emotional, it has a hint of predictability, but it doesn'tmake you hesitate to want to read the continued story. I’ll admit that when I first saw the cover, I twitched my tail in indecision on whether to read it or not, but since the second book just recently came out, I figured I’d give it a try. I’m rather glad that I did because it was an enjoyable story. Dane has a fantastic group of characters and a wonderful talent for storytelling. This is a book series fans of YA will definitely want to check out for themselves.I really liked Rayne, Gabe, Lucas, Kendra, Rafe, and the rest of the crew. Each one of them stood out and felt real. Their fear, anger, desire for family and love, everything made these characters an easy group to connect with. I felt for these characters while reading and by the end of the story I wanted them all to find some measure of happiness and peace. Even the antagonists were relateable, though I wouldn’t say that they don’t deserve everything that happens to them at the end. Just because I could see where they were coming from in their beliefs doesn’t mean I didn’t cheer when they got their comeuppance. I think this is one of the few books where I didn’t have a problem with a single character, they all just worked for me. And I also felt that the chemistry that was between everyone, whether that chemistry was romantic in nature or simply that of close friendship, helped in making me appreciate all of them more as the story went on.The one thing that stood out the most for me with this book was Dane’s perspective on “Indigo” children. This isn’t the first time I’ve heard the term or read a book that deals with this concept, and if I’m to be honest, I’ve done my fair share of research on the topic because it piqued my curiosity, so I was a bit unsure where Dane intended to take things. But after reading the book, I feel that her approach was rather unique and I think she does a wonderful job explaining the concept. I liked the idea of each “Indigo” have a unique talent that set them apart yet was beneficial to the group as a whole. I actually wouldn’t mind being a part of something like this…shame that “Indigo” felines aren’t a possibility. But then again, we felines are the more superior race, so it makes sense that humans would need to be the ones to evolve in order to further serve our greatness. =^.^=Now while I’m not usually a fan of multiple points of view within a book, it actually works for this story. And Dane makes the transitions between the switches in POV flawless. It’s hard to say whose perspective I enjoyed more, I liked them all, though I think I was just a tad more partial to Gabe and O’Dells POVs. In Gabe’s case, I feel that his story is really where the heart of the entire plot rests, so learning about him and seeing things through is eyes strengthened everyone else’s POVs. In O’Dells case, I just had to admire a guy who while having been put in charge of an entire operation, sits idly by while someone else takes point thus resulting in all hell breaking loose. To be honest, I found it hard to take O’Dell seriously, so I viewed his POVs as more of a comedic break most of the time. My apologies to Dane if that was not her intent, but even she has to admit that he’s not nearly as bad ass as he’d like to think he is.On the whole, this was an action packed book which holds many surprises that will keep readers wanting to find out what happens next long after the last page has been turned.
