Jak Mi Jane Austenová Zničila život (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

It was a very uplifting book, where a woman found herself to be stronger in the end, after being betrayed by her husband personally and professionally. I thoroughly enjoyed this book as it empowered the heroine as opposed to hiding yet again in the arms of another man but finding out she had the strength to stand on her own two legs and making a come back before finding solace in the arms of the man she fell in love with in the end. The main character of this book is Emma Grant. For a 30something woman she's a bit of a ninny. She has been deluding herself seemingly all her life & she doesn't realize this until her marriage to Edward Fairchild falls apart. I didn't like Emma much. But her journey is interesting because it takes the reader through the landscapes of Jane Austen's life. As for her love interests, Adam seems solid. But I had to wonder why he didn't declare his love for her in the years before Emma got married. There's talk in the book that he didn't approve of Edward, etc. But no mention of Adam actually saying, I love you Emma. Don't marry that idiot Edward. Was he chicken? But anyway, other than the fascination with Jane Austen's life the storyline wasn't believable enough for me. A secret society called the Formidables? A rival group trying to get the unpublished Austen letters published? I didn't buy it. The only parts of the book I really liked were the descriptions of the places Austen lived & visited. Hopefully Patillo's other books are better.
