Jane Austen Hayatımı Mahvetti (2011) - Plot & Excerpts
This book had an awesome title and premise (we all want to know the truth about Jane Austen's love life), but the story does not live up to the awesomeness. The main character irked me. Emma is a thirty-some old Austen scholar, yet believes that Austen novels are only about happy endings and blamed Austen for giving her that false hope. She also mixes up the Bertrams with Mr. Rushworth, which should've caught someone's attention in the editing process. So, she's not a very good Austen scholar. The character development was overall poor and the plot was lacking suspense and intrigue. I just wish the book was more interesting or even just wittier. This book was a delight to read. For anyone who loves Jane Austen it is an absolute must. With exquisite attention to detail, Pattillo uncovers Jane Austen’s life for the reader who hasn’t had the opportunity to research on his or her own and she laces it through with a fictitious story that is delicious and wonderful to follow. Several times while reading this book I thought “Why didn’t I put those pieces together?!”A little bit Pride and Prejudice mashed up with Sense and Sensibility and a chase worthy of National Treasure or Indiana Jones, you’ll delight in the world that Pattillo has created around a beloved international author and the stories she chose to tell and some she didn’t. I was disappointed when the story ended. Not because it ended badly, but simply because it ended. I wanted to know more and follow what happened next. Thankfully there is a sequel due soon. I can’t wait to get my hands on Mr. Darcy Broke My Heart.
