The Sweetgum Ladies Knit For Love (2009) - Plot & Excerpts
This was a fun and entertaining read. Beth did a great job of really letting you get to know the characters. Each character has their own personality and their own story. My only complaint would be that the Sweetgum Ladies "knit/book club" meetings were only a few pages for each meeting. In one such meeting, it was not even discussed what the characters had done with their assigned knit. I would have enjoyed reading a bit more about what each character knit for each meeting. As for the "book club" portion, I think Beth used the perfect amount of tie-in from the classic books assigned to the Sweetgum Ladies and events somewhat mirroring the classic stories. At the Sweetgum Christian Church, the Knit Lit Society lead by Eugenie Carson meets each month to discuss Great Love Stories in Literature and showcase their corresponding knitting project. The five other women (Esther, Camille, Hannah, Merry, and Maria) under the guidance of Eugenie discuss and confront their own views of love. As the bond between the women increases through their shared discussion of classic literature, they learn to rely on each other as the source of support they so desperately need in small town, Sweetgum.
