“Half.” He’d spent a lifetime running from family, and one member had landed right on his doorstep. He’d worried this day would come. They’d sniff out some cash and come over with a handout and a sob story. The saddest part was that for years he would have been thrilled to see Wes. He was the big brother. More than once Wes put his body between Travis and one of the various men their mother brought home. As brothers do, they’d made plans. Wes would turn legal and get them out of there, but that never happened. He’d left early and never looked back. Left Travis in that hellhole. Spence and Mitch whipped around the corner of the closest cabin. They had hit an all-out run but skidded to a stop in front of Travis. They looked him over, walked around him. Mitch texted something and Travis saw Cassidy’s name. Looked like the gossip trail was in full swing. “Uh, hello?”
