Penny had to glance at the clock. It seemed like minutes ago they were leaving the hotel and now it was almost time for her appointment. Although she was now in an area of the country that she knew fairly well, everything looked surreal. As thoughts of the events to come filled her mind, her chest tightened and she found it difficult to breathe. With the target hangar a hundred feet away, she grabbed onto his hand. As she squeezed, she looked over at him with frightened eyes. “I’m not sure that I can do this.” “You aren’t doing this alone. I’ll be at your side through every step.” His unwavering determination gave her strength and, while intertwining her fingers with his, she nodded her head. After they parked Jax tried to release Penny’s hand, but she refused to let go. He said sweetly, “You’ll need to let me go for just a minute until we’re out of the car.” As she stared down at their intertwined fingers, she couldn’t force her fingers to release their hold.
